4...A clerical office in Elms House, Cadby Hall. Note the sloping window ledges to prevent them being used for filing purposes! The glass in the window is also opaque to prevent staff from looking out to day-dream and thus waste time. Heating was under-floor in hot water pipes. Electric sockets were flush with the floor. This open-plan office is a rather stark working environment but it was considered leading edge design when it was built in 1934.
