clerical office in Elms House, Cadby Hall.
Note the sloping window ledges to prevent
them being used for filing purposes! The
glass in the window is also opaque to
prevent staff from looking out to
day-dream and thus waste time. Heating was
under-floor in hot water pipes. Electric
sockets were flush with the floor. This
open-plan office is a rather stark working
environment but it was considered leading
edge design when it was built in 1934.
