The Lyons subsidiary in South Africa
was: J. Lyons & Co. (Pty.) Ltd. It was
situated at Pinetown, Natal, and it was
here that another Cadby Hall operated.
Lyons had had a long association with
South Africa but it is not known when the
Cadby Hall in Natal was established. Its
main activities were blending and packing
tea, roasting and packing coffee,
producing the liquid coffee concentrate
Bev and producing a number of ready-mix
products for the South African market.
Chico and other products were imported
from the UK. The sales pattern followed
closely that of the UK, depots being
established at various places throughout
the territory covered, each with its own
sales representative. Main depots were
established at Cape Town and Johannesburg.
In the 1950s the General Manager was Louis
Tamine and the Accountant Mrs Warren.
